La Plagne is one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in France, sharing the vast Paradiski ski area with neighbouring Les Arcs. Named the most-visited ski resort in the world in 2015, the resort offers numerous facilities and après-ski options to cope with the demand. The resort is divided into 4 traditional villages and a further 6 purpose-built villages. The hamlet of Crete Cote Village, lies just below Plagne 1800, a traditional village which has developed to provide a nice balance of the old and new. Plagne 1800 offers a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants as well as direct access to the pistes and is therefore a popular choice amongst many British chalet operators.
As well as some fantastic downhill skiing, La Plagne offers plenty of additional activities to try out on your winter holiday. The most popular has to be the Bob Experience, where you can take an exhilarating ride on the Olympic Bob track, handily located a few hundred metres from Crete Cote Village. Other activities include paragliding, tobogganing on a dedicated run and husky-sledding. If you prefer to get active indoors then head to the ice rink or swimming pool in Plagne Centre.
La Plagne has an impressive ski area in its own right, providing a wide range of terrains spread across 225km of pistes culminating at the summit of Bellecote at 3250m altitude. Although catering for all levels of skiers, La Plagne’s huge selection of rolling blue pistes make it an intermediate’s dream. For the more experienced skiers it is well worth upgrading to a Paradiski lift pass, giving you access to Les Arcs via the jaw-dropping Vanoise Express Cablecar which bridges the valley between the two resorts. Les Arcs and Peisey/Vallandry boasts an additional 200km of pistes, making the Paradiski the third largest ski area in France with a total of 425km of pistes. The area offers a huge variety of skiing terrain, with everything from glaciers, alpine steeps, open bowls and tree runs to keep all types of skier satisfied.
