Saint Jean d'Arves
Nestled snugly in the heart of the Maurienne Valley opposite the Aiguilles d’Arves, Saint Jean d’Arves is one of the most beautiful villages in the French Alps. The resort is made up of twenty tiny hamlets, including La Chal, all of which add their own authentic charm to the resort. As a destination for skiing holidays, this traditional town is an excellent choice thanks to its unbeatable panoramic views of the icy mountain peaks. The Chalets la Fontaine du Roi can be found in the hamlet of La Chal, within close walking distance of the slopes and near to the small selection of bars, restaurants and shops which can be found in the town.
The Sybelles Ski Area
Despite being a small, peaceful village, Saint Jean d’Arves provides guests with access to the largest ski area in the Maurienne Valley, ideal for beginner and advanced skiers alike. Located at an altitude of 1550m to 2207m, there are 43 runs to be found in Saint Jean d’Arves itself, with easy access to the huge ski area The Sybelles as well. With highly varied terrain, it’s a great choice for first-time skiers on family holidays, as well as seasoned experts. The altitude ranges from 1600m to 2265m and there are more than 310km of slopes to enjoy, which includes 33 km of cross country slopes. Of the 124 ski slopes in the area, 25 are green, 56 are blue, 34 red and nine are black. There is easy access guaranteed from all of the resorts within the area, with 41 fast-paced, group ski lifts running throughout the day. 441 snow-guns service the area, ensuring that the pristine snow is in top quality condition throughout the season.
There is a whole host of activities for holidaymakers to enjoy besides skiing in Saint Jean d’Arves during winter. Snowshoeing is especially popular and guided tours led by professionals take place in the village throughout the ski season. This is an adventurous way to explore the snow-covered slopes and forests of the Maurienne Valley and take in the stunning panoramic views. Sledging and dog-sled rides led by packs of huskies are two more exciting activities, both of which can be adjusted to suit either children or adults.
