Saint Gilles Croix de Vie
Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is a former fishing village filled with attractions and sites. It’s pretty and serene, ideal for those on a romantic getaway or fans of the great outdoors and natural surroundings. The golden sands of the Atlantic coastline are within walking distance, with the sea providing some fantastic activities, as well as opportunities to watch the local fishermen bringing in their catch of the day.
For day trips, Nantes and La Roche-sur-Yon are both within easy driving distance, with Nantes providing further shops, bars and restaurants, while La Roche-sur-Yon is a pretty village filled with history and ideal for those wanting to explore the culture of France.

The warm temperatures found in this region of France make it ideal for picnics, hiking, walking, cycling and even horse riding. There are stunning pine forests to be explored, as well as marshlands with some interesting flora, fauna and wildlife. The Fontenelles golf course is almost literally on the doorstep, and is an ideal way to relax as you take in the pine trees and lush surroundings There are also fishing trips available from the harbour.
Animal lovers can see over 500 animals at the Animaux de la Ferme, where there is a farm as well as a wildlife park. Alternatively, head to the adventure park and spend your day above the trees for some high-energy fun. After all that activity, head to the thermal spa, where you can completely unwind.

Hire a car and visit the nearby city of Nantes, which is just over an hour away. Here you’ll find art, sites and attractions as well as historic buildings, shops, bars and restaurants to explore.
Families should spend the day Le Puy du Fou, which offers breath-taking historic shows filled with stunts, exhibits and displays, with something suitable for all ages.
Take the trip across the sea to the Ile d’Yeu, where there is some stunning natural scenery as well as a pretty harbour, biking trails and plenty of walking trails.
