- Challenging skiing for indermediate skiers, with plenty of challenges for experienced skiers.
- Quieter, more affordable skiing away from the crowds at bigger resorts.
- Plenty of activities to try off the slopes, as well as a good selection of eateries.
Valmeinier is located in the Maurienne valley of the Savoie region. The resort can actually be divided into two villages, Valmeinier 1500 and Valmeinier 1800. Valmeinier 1500 is the original village in the area whilst aptly named Valmeinier 1800, stands at a higher altitude and is a modern, purpose built village. Most of the resort's facilities can be found in the Valmeinier 1800 village. Whilst the resort was mainly built in the 1980-1990s, developers built in the traditional wooden chalet style, so you won't find ugly concrete buildings here.
Valmeinier is an ideal resort for intermediate skiers but there are a few challenges for the more experienced. Beginners and families will enjoy the laid back and relaxed atmosphere, the compact and functional resort centre and the easy access to the pistes. Valmeinier is not such a well-known resort and therefore tends to be both quieter, cheaper and more 'french' than better known resorts in Haute-Savoie or the Tarentaise. We like to think of it as a hidden gem so come and try it for yourselves, but don't let too many people know!
